Exhibitor/Job Fair Employer Information

Below are the responses to the most frequently asked questions regarding the Job Fair at the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) Annual Convention.  If you need additional information, please feel free to contact the HNBA Job Fair Committee at BeckerdD2@staff.abanet.org (Students and Lateral Attorneys) or roxie@thejonesfirm.com (Employers) and a Committee member will respond to you as soon as possible.  Please note that registration deadlines and registration fees have not yet been determined but will soon be published on the HNBA Website at www.hnba.com.

GENERAL QUESTIONS

Ques.: What is the HNBA Job Fair?  

Ans.: The HNBA Job Fair is organized and provided by the HNBA as a service to the legal community.  For law students and lawyers, the HNBA Job Fair is an excellent employment resource.  For employers, the Job Fair is a valuable asset for meeting highly qualified Hispanic law students and attorneys from across the country.  The Job Fair occurs during the 2009 HNBA Annual Convention, so Job Fair participants will be able to interact with leading Hispanic lawyers throughout the and to participate in enriching continuing legal education programs (CLE).

  

Ques.: When and where will the 2009 Job Fair take place? 

Ans.: The 2009 HNBA Job Fair will be held on Friday, September 4, in conjunction with the 34th HNBA Annual Convention scheduled September 2 to 6, 2009 at the Hotel Albuquerque, in Albuquerque, New Mexico .      

 

 Ques.:  Who administers the Job Fair?  

 Ans.: The Job Fair is organized and administered by the HNBA Job Fair Committee and the American Bar Association (ABA).  Committee members range from new to experienced attorneys.  The Committee and the ABA are dedicated to ensuring that the Job Fair is a rich and rewarding experience for both the applicants and the employers.    

 

Ques.:  Whom do I contact for more information regarding the Job Fair? 

 Ans.: If you are a student, you may contact the HNBA Job Fair Committee by emailing the ABA Representative at BeckerD2@staff.abanet.org.  If you are an employer, you may contact the HNBA Representative at roxie@thejonesfirm.com.    

 

  Ques.: Is the Job Fair only for Latino/as?  

 Ans.: No.  The HNBA provides an equal opportunity programs and does not discriminate in the provision of services or opportunities on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, citizenship status, age, disability, political affiliation or belief.   We encourage everyone to participate.    

 

QUESTIONS FOR LAW STUDENTS AND ATTORNEYS

Ques.: How do I register for the Job Fair? 

 Ans.: Full registration is available online at the HNBA Conference website: www.hnbaconvention.com.


Ques.: What is the deadline for registration? 

Ans.: Early Bird registration ends July 31, 2009.  The deadline for regular registration will be on August 17, 2009.        

 

 Ques.: What other information is required? 

 Ans.: A resume must be submitted via email to BeckerD2@staff.abanet.org by August 17, 2009.  

 

 Ques.: Who are the interviewing employers?

Ans.: Employers from the private and public sectors will be holding interviews.  Large law firms and medium size firms are heavily involved, as are a number of important government agencies.   There is less participation by small law firms (10 lawyers or less).     

 

   Ques.: Can I choose whom to interview with? 

 Ans.: Prior to the Job Fair the Committee will publish a “WISH LIST” that is designed to solicit information to assist the Committee in matching job seekers’ preferences with employers.  You will need to revisit the site to obtain and complete the WISH LIST.  We will try to schedule interviews with specific employers to the extent that the WISH LIST is completed and we are able to do so.          

 

 Ques.:  How will interviews be scheduled?  

 Ans.: We anticipate that interviews will be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break.  The interviews will be scheduled in 30-minute intervals.  Note that we cannot guarantee how many interviews you will have.

 

 

Ques.: How many law students and lawyers will be interviewing?   

 

Ans.: The HNBA Job Fair draws over 60 employers and 200 law students and lateral attorneys.  More specific information will be provided on this year’s Job Fair as the event gets closer.

 

 

 

Ques.:When will I learn if I have been hired? 

 

Ans.: That answer depends on the employers.  You might receive an offer on the spot, or perhaps after the Job Fair.  Some employers have follow-up interviews. 

 

QUESTIONS FOR JOB FAIR EMPLOYERS

Ques.: What is the deadline for registration? 

 Ans.: The deadline for registration will be on August 14, 2009.    

 

Ques.: What information is required from me? 

Ans.: Please refer to your Employer’s Information Packet which is available online and will also be mailed after registration.       

 

 Ques.: How will candidates be chosen?

Ans.: You will have an opportunity to select six of twelve candidates.  The Job Fair Committee will assign six candidates based on applicant preferences.  We will be happy to accommodate you if you wish to interview more than 12 candidates.  Also, you will have the opportunity to meet all of the candidates during an informal table talk session at the beginning of the Job Fair and you are free to add interviews at that time.
